A SPLINK is a simple way to

It's a weekly devotional packed with ideas to help connect your family. Splinks are creative ways of interacting with your children with family devotional starters and ideas for family time. Splinkscan also help you use teachable moments to pass along spiritualtruths and life lessons while making memories or just having fun together. No matter where you are, it can always be time for a Splink!
1. Significant Sorrow
Students using the D6 curriculum explored the sadness at Jesus' crucifixion. If your family has experienced the death of a loved one, show an item that belonged to the loved one or an item that was a gift from the loved one. Tell why the item is special. Ask each family member to share a memory or something special about the loved one.
The people who loved Jesus were sad when He died. They were sad that He would no longer be with Him. They would miss Him. It is okay to be sad when someone dies. It is okay to cry. It is okay to talk about and remember the good times with that person.
2. Coloring Comfort
Give each person a piece of paper and a pencil or crayons or markers. Ask them to draw a picture of a situation where they felt sad. After all are finished, even Mom and Dad, let each person tell about their picture.
Brainstorm to think of words of comfort or a Bible verse that would fit each situation and write it across the bottom of the picture.
For example: If they are sad because they feel left out, write, "God is with me." If they are sad because someone is sick, write 1 Peter 5:7—“Casting all your care upon Him; for He cares for you."
3. "Sadness is part of living in this world."
Bring a picture of your child when he or she was born and talk about their birth (who was there, how you felt, who he/she looked like, etc).
When Jesus tried to explain to His disciples about His upcoming death, He used the illustration of a woman giving birth (John 16:17-24). There is pain and anguish while the birth is happening, but it is quickly forgotten when the baby is born. Jesus told them that they would be sad when He died, but they would be happy afterwards. Just as they didn't quite understand all that was going to happen, we do not understand all that happens to us.
Sadness is part of living in this world. Jesus said, "In this world you will have trouble" (John 16:33). But there will be a time in heaven when God will wipe away all tears (Revelation 21:4).
Say a prayer for any special requests, but then thank God for His promise that someday sadness will end.
